Goal of the Afternoon: Organize the Ideation Workshop
This afternoon is dedicated to planning and finalizing the exercises for the upcoming ideation workshop, which involves stakeholders and direct users. The workshop aims to foster a creative and collaborative environment to generate ideas and concepts addressing user problems.
WORKSHOP PREPARATION
- Finalize Workshop Structure:
- Confirm Workshop Date: Ensure that the workshop date is confirmed and communicated to all participants, including stakeholders and direct users.
- Venue and Logistics: Arrange a suitable venue and ensure all logistical aspects (like seating, technology, materials) are in place for the workshop.
- EMPATHY PHASE (Morning Session):
- Problem Tree Analysis: Prepare to conduct a problem tree analysis exercise. This activity helps in understanding the root causes of the problems identified in the user research.
- Current Journey Map Creation: Plan to create a Current Journey Map, which visually represents the users' current experience. This mapping exercise can highlight pain points and areas for improvement.
- IDEATION PHASE (Afternoon Session):
- Select 3 Main HMWs: Choose three main 'How Might We' questions based on the most significant pain points identified from the user research.
- World Café Format: Organize a World Café session for ideation. This involves small group discussions that rotate around different tables, each focused on one of the HMW questions.
- Sharing and Collaboration: Plan for a session where groups can share their ideas and insights with the larger group, fostering a collective approach to ideation.
- Workshop Dynamics:
- Interactive and Engaging: Ensure that the workshop is interactive, with hands-on activities that encourage participation and creativity.
- Divergent Thinking: Encourage divergent thinking in the ideation phase to explore a wide range of potential solutions.
- User Inclusion: Actively involve real customers or users in the workshop to ensure their perspectives are integral to the ideation process.
- Pre-Workshop Communication:
- Brief Participants: Send a pre-workshop briefing to all participants outlining the objectives, agenda, and what they can expect from the workshop.
- Encourage Open Minds: Remind participants to come with open minds and a readiness to collaborate and innovate.
Key Considerations for Workshop Preparation
- Facilitation Role: Be prepared to take on a strong facilitation role, guiding discussions and activities while ensuring that every participant has a voice.
- Creative Environment: Set up an environment that is conducive to creativity, such as arranging the room to encourage interaction and providing materials for brainstorming and visualization.
- Follow-Up Plan: Have a plan in place for capturing the ideas generated and the next steps following the workshop.
By the end of the afternoon, the ideation workshop should be well-organized with a clear structure and engaging activities planned. The emphasis is on understanding user problems deeply and then collaboratively exploring innovative solutions. The involvement of actual users in this phase is crucial for grounding the ideas in real-world needs and perspectives. The workshop is a critical step in moving from insights to actionable concepts that can inform the business strategy.
